How-To Determine The Correct Rod Length for Your Application
The Steps Below Will Assist You In Determining The Correct Rod Length For Your Application Including The Use Of A Bore/Patch Guide.
- If Your Firearm Has A High Cheek Piece That Will Interfere With A Rod Handle During Cleaning Or You Do Not Want Your Rod Handle To Travel Over Your Stock, Measure the Over All Length (OAL) Of Your Firearm In Inches. Enter Value Under Firearm OAL
- If This Is Not The Case Proceed To Step 2.
- Measure your Barrel Length Only. Round To The Nearest Half Inch. Do Not Include Action Length In This Measurement. Enter Value Under Barrel Length.
- If You Already Have A Bore/Patch Guide Measure The Over All Length (OAL) Of The Guide. Round To The Nearest Quarter Inch. Enter Value Under Bore/Patch Guide Length.
- Note: Different Manufactures Guides Vary In Length.
Bore Tech Bore Guides Are: 13.75” OAL
Bore Tech Patch Guides Are: 16.50” OAL
- Note: Different Manufactures Guides Vary In Length.
- The Recommend Rod Length Is Calculated By Adding 4 Inches To Either:
- Your Barrel Length + Your Bore/Patch Guide Length
OR
Your Firearms OAL - The Additional 4 Inches Allows For Extra Room For Brush/Jag Clearance And Extra Room So You Do Not Hit The Back Of Your Bore/Patch Guide With Your Rod Handle As The Brush/Jag Exits The Muzzle End.
- Your Barrel Length + Your Bore/Patch Guide Length

BORE STIX, ADD A NEW TWIST GO GUN CLEANING!
To measure the twist rate of the barrel, insert a proper size patch or brush into the bore until the indexing dots line up. Measure from the back fo the rod handle to a convenient point (scope or bore guide). Push the rod in until the indexing dots line up, measure again. To calculate the twist rate of the barrel deduct the first measurement from the second measurement. The remainder equals the twist rate of your barrel.
